Some Local Government Chairmen from the South West geo-political zone of Nigeria have emerged among the best performed Council administrators in the country.
They are Engr.. Augustine Oluwatoyin Ojo, Chairman, Ado Central LCDA, Ekiti State,
Hon. Lawal Lateef Adebare Akorede. Chairman, Ibarapa North LGA, Oyo State and Hon. Dr. Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira, Chairman, Itire Ikate LCDA, Lagos State.
Also, Hon. Ogunyomi Oluwole, Chairman, Yewa North LGA, Ogun State and Hon. Kehinde Bayode, Chairman, Ekiti LGA, Kwara State.
According to a press statement released by the organizer of the award, the awardees emerged after a thorough scrutiny of nominations by the general public based on performance and contribution to the development of the grassroots.
The Nigerian Local Government Excellence Award (LOGEXA) which is an annual award was designed to celebrate and reward excellence at the grassroots.
The award is to separate the wheat from the chaff, establish the culture of accountability as a symbol for responsible governance and encourage recipients to do more and challenge the indolent ones to be alive to their responsibilities, the statement reads.
Among the dignitaries who graced last year’s conferment ceremony were Hon. (Mrs) Abike Dabiri -Erewa, Chairman/CEO of Nigerians Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).
Also in attendance were His Excellency, Chief Abiodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus Laori, Member, House of Representatives and many other distinguished Nigerians.
This year’s conferment ceremony which will draw dignitaries from across the country shall be held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
